Basic Meditation: Breathing Exercise

(Last Updated On: June 12, 2014)

This is a post I forgot to transfer over from my old blog last week.

Anyone who is serious about their magickal or spiritual practices will eventually need to improve their there focus and concentration. This need for improved focus and concentration eventually leads most people to some form of meditation.

Once a decision to take up a daily meditation practice is made most people (unless they have prior experience) are unsure about exactly how to get started. The video below will show you exactly how to get started if you’re a total beginner.

The most important thing to remember is that the whole idea of meditation is to train your mind to focus on a single thought for extended periods of time. It’s not going to be easy. You’re not going to be good at it right away. It takes time and effort, and there are no shortcuts.

In the beginning you’re going to get distracted, so don’t get stressed out about it. Just relax and refocus your mind back on your breathing as many times as it takes until your meditation session is done.

If thoughts or ideas come to your mind during your meditation, just let them go and refocus. Don’t try to suppress your thoughts in any way. If you try to stop yourself from thinking about something, you will only make things worse for yourself. The idea is to go with the flow and not fight against yourself. Just gently bring your mind back to the breath in a general way. If you get stressed out during meditation because you’re fighting yourself, it defeats the whole purpose of the exercise.
